"AFTER-LIFE WITH ARCHIE"

Hello, Pulp Friends,

I can finally let this dead cat out of the coffin! :)
This Fall I will be teaming up with talented powerhouse writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Archie Comics to bring the HORROR to Riverdale with the new book AFTER LIFE WITH ARCHIE.
Above you can see my cover for the first issue and the variant cover I did last year that inspired this all.
And on L.A. TIMES’ HERO COMPLEX you can learn a bit more about the book and on how it came to be thanks to an interview with Roberto and me.
If you love the classic EC and Creepy stile horror books, you guys are gonna love this, I promise!

Here’s the solicits for #1 and - below - my variant cover for #1.

TALES FROM THE END OF THE WORLD

TALES FROM THE END OF THE WORLD #1 Cover
~~ Click on the image for biggie ~~

Hello Pulp Friends,

some time ago I was asked by the Spanish publisher NORMA Editorial if I wanted to draw a cover for their upcoming Horror anthology titled TALES FROM THE END OF THE WORLD.
"We would like something int he vein of the classic EC covers and we think you would be perfect for it", they said.
Of course, they had me at "in the vein of EC covers" ;)

The result is the above cover, where I didn't just draw the art, but I also hand drew the logo/title, the text TERROR on the side bar, and the inset circled-art teasing some of the tales included int he anthology.

Hope you guys enjoy this cover as much as Norma did :)

Have a wonderful Pulp Sunday and Happy Easter, everyone!

Cheers,
Francesco

Al Williamson Tribute

Al Williamson Tribute
(click on the above image for a larger view)

Just right after Frazetta a few weeks back, we lost another true master of the illustrated literature.
Al Williamson, probably even more than Frazetta but as much as Alex Raymond, has been a huge inspiration fo mine, so I definitely planned to do a tribute to the man when I heard the sad news.
Along with fellow twartist, we decided to devote this week to Al Williamson, so I have been posting this on the Comic Twart yesterday and I am reposting it in here today with a detail/closeup on the "Easter Egg" I inserted in the composition.
I am planning to have a colored version of this up in here soon.
Hope you guys dig the EC sci-fi vibe of it.

So long, Al, thanks for the constant inspiration.

Cheers,
Francesco

Archie the Teen-Wolf

Archie The Teen Wolf
Hello Pulp Friends,

I posted this "pseudo" ocver earlier on Comic Twart blog for this week topic: Archie Comics! When I saw some of the 50s cover, with those 50s clothes, the idea of a mix with a classic EC style horror cover would have been a fun thing to do.
I scribbled/sketched the concept quickly (see below) and finally got around yesterday about drawing most of it. Added the type and balloons this morning and ta-daa, the dish (above cover) is served! :)
Hope you guys dig it :)

A few notes:
- in the original sketch the # on the cover was 90, which is the number for FEAR in the Italian cabala (each thing has a related number which can vary from 1 to 90). I changed the # in 66 and added JUN, which is... the 6th month, so that makes, well, you know which particular number ;)
- in the original sketch I thought to add a full moon behind the title ARCHIE. I ended up iusing the moon as cap for the i in Archie: I thought it was better that way.
- finally I slightly changed the original balloons dialagoes to make it a more immediate read

Cheers,
Francesco
