The Black Beetle in "NO WAY OUT" ~ MONDO Edition

THE BLACK BEETLE: NO WAY OUT ~ MONDO Poster ~~ Click on the cover for a large preview of NO WAY OUT MONDO Variant Edition ~~

Hello Pulp Friends,

     I am so happy to announce that soon I will have regular, variant and Artist Proof editions of the very first BLACK BEETLE MONDO poster for sale on my webstore (keep an eye on my blogs and on my twitter @f_francavilla for forthcoming updates and more details).

   This huge poster (24"x36") - a nod to the classic serials posters from the '40s - debuted at HeroesCon a couple of weeks ago and it has been the first time MONDO has released a comicbook related poster that is not tied in in a movie (even though we all looking forward to see a Black Beetle movie one day, right? :))

Here's Mondo's Press Release and some detailed close-up shot of the poster courtesy of the Mondo blog.

TITLE: The Black Beetle
ARITST: Francesco Francavilla
SIZE: 24" x 36"
EDITION: 225 (regular), 110 (variant)
PRICE: $55 (regular), $75 (variant)

The Black Beetle is centered on a pulp-noir character and takes place in a fictional universe that's based in Colt City. The character debuted on the pages of Pulp Sunday, Francesco Francavilla's blog devoted to all things pulp, and had a brief life as webcomic before stepping in the print world with an ashcan first, and on the pages of Dark Horse Presents anthology later. Francesco quickly realized that many fans were interested in exploring this world with him, so soon after the short run in DHP, a new 4-issue mini - titled "NO WAY OUT" - was released. The first 2 issues have sold out and have required DH to go back to press for a second printing.

With issue 4 coming out next week and with the first hardcover volume - also titled "NO WAY OUT" - available for pre-orders right now, there is no better time to jump on board of the fantastic adventures of The Black Beetle.

The Black Beetle is a Detective/Vigilante SuperHero – His mission is to fight crime in Colt City. We don't know who he is, not yet anyway. We do know that he has access to some advantaged technology and that he is patrolling the city streets and protecting the citizens the best he can. He is –after all- one man. Colt City is a fictional city set in the late '40s America on the East Coast and has a very "pulp" vibe to the city's depiction and inhabitants.

Commenting on his collaboration with Mondo, Francavilla said, "I've been a huge fan of Mondo for a while, and I've recently become one of their poster artists (which brings me joy all the time), so you can only imagine how happy I was when I heard that they were a big fan of my creation, The Black Beetle. From there it didn't take too long to get to the poster you see here. Hopefully it's just the first of many. Hope you guys enjoy the poster and consider jumping on the books as well: they are what comics should be: 100% entertainment and FUN! Thanks again, Mondo, for making this happen."

Have a wonderful Pulp Sunday, everyone :)

Francesco

"THE INVISIBLE MAN" ~ (1933)

The INVISIBLE MAN
~~ Click on the image for biggie ~~

Hello Pulp Friends,

It's HORROCTOBER and today's offering is a classic: THE INVISIBLE MAN!
This poster was part of the "THE UNIVERSAL MONSTERS" show organized by MONDO, show that opened 2 days ago in their gallery in Austin.

Here's a shot at the gallery and the official flyer for the show. (click on the images for larger view)

The screen-print poster turned out magnificent! It's 24x36" and if you missed the opportunity to get one from the regular but limited and numbered edition (405) at the show, I just received the APs (see below) so I should have them for sale at some point (when I am done with some deadlines and figure out some packing logistics).

Have a wonderful Pulp Sunday, everyone, and enjoy this scary HORROCTOBER with us :)

Cheers,
Francesco

~~ Click on the image for biggie ~~

Hello Pulp Friends,

As for tradition, I am dedicating the month of October to all things Horror and Creepy, hence the genius re-title of HORROCTOBER! ;)

Among the many scary things I will be sharing this month, there are also 3 limited screen print posters I have done for a couple of Horror themed shows.

First is the above poster of THE LIVING DEAD, a poster for the Bottleneck Gallery's "Can't Beat Em, Join Em: The Zombie Show", which runs from October 6th (this past Friday) to October 28th.

If you live in NYC or in the surroundings, go check out the show: lots of cool art and depiction of your favorite Zombies. The address is  Bottleneck Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York

You can pick up one of my 16x24" screen-print limited (115) THE LIVING DEAD posters at the show or online at the Bottleneck website http://www.bottleneckgallery.com/products/francesco-francavilla-the-living-dead
I should be getting my APs sometime next week and have them on sale on my store the week after.

The other two posters coming this month are yet to be announced: next one will be for MONDO's "THE UNIVERSAL MONSTERS" show in Austin (see poster below for info).

If you enjoyed my CREATURE poster I did for them, wait to see this one :)
I will share somethign as soon as I am allowed.

The third poster is something original (and limited as for the previous ones) that will be put for sale on my store later this month. Stay tuned for more info.

Have a wonderful Pulp Sunday, everyone, and enjoy this scary HORROCTOBER with us :)

Cheers,
Francesco

"The SHADOW and the Bloody Hand of Doom"

THE SHADOW #7 Cover
~~ Click on the image for biggie ~~

Hello Pulp Friends,

Here's my cover for THE SHADOW #7 due in stores in October.
Be ready for a double SHADOW serving next month when I will be revealing the covers for November :)

I wanted also to let everyone know I received my Artist Proofs (see above) for the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON poster art I did for Mondo. The amount is very limited (about 20 copies) so I am trying to figure out how to put them on sale (and find out related shipping method/costs - never shipped something this big) and make it a very limited/special poster to hang on your wall.
Tune in middle of the week for details.

Meanwhile, wish you all a wonderful Pulp Sunday :)

Cheers,
Francesco

EISNERs, The Black Beetle, and Creature From The Black Lagoon!

Best Cover Artist Eisner Winner FF

Hey guys,

it's a very very special edition of Pulp Sunday for many reasons, and for some great news, all coming out from last week's SDCC. Please read the full post and you'll see. :)

~~~~
EISNER!!!
As you can guess from the photo above, I won an EISNER for the BEST COVER ARTIST category! Thank you so much to everyone who made this possible, including you all guys always being so kind and supportive of my work :)
It was great to see lots of my friends being rewarded too: guys like Darwyn Cooke, Ramon Perez, Paolo Rivera, Mike Norton, and list goes on and on. Great comics and great creators being rewarded is always wonderful to see :)
But the Eisner on Friday night was just the cherry on top of a great couple of days at SDCC.
The Black Beetle in NO WAY OUT
More BLACK BEETLE! (click on the image for bigger view)
Yes, during the Dark Horse panel on Thursday, I announced the upcoming (and long awaited) NO WAY OUT, a new Black Beetle mini starting at the very beginning of 2013 and that will tell the story that some of you have started reading in the (now sold out) Black Beetle #0 ashcan.
Before the mini, you will also have a chance to get the whole NIGHT SHIFT story that run in Dark Horse Presents #11-12-13 in a one shot that will include some extras and will have a brand new cover. And this is just the beginning of the Black Beetle saga: expect much more in 2013 :)
The Creature From The Black Lagoon MONDO's CREATURE FORM THE BLACK LAGOON! (click on the image for bigger view)
Last but not least, on Friday morning MONDO released my first poster I did with them: CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, part of their Universal Monster line.
The poster, limited and numbered to 325 copies, sold out within an hour. I am expecting a certain number of Artist Proofs so stay tuned on my blogs or on my twitter feed (@f_francavilla) for the chance to get a copy if you missed out in SD.
And yes, more collaborations with MONDO are in the plans :)
Hope you all are as excited as I am for the Eisner, The Creature, and  - most of all - for more Black Beetle!
Have a wonderful Pulp Sunday, everyone :)
Cheers,
Francesco
