The Three Musketeers

The Three Musketeers
Hello Pulp Friends,

As promised, here's a quick recap of my wonderful time at FX show this past weekend :)

First let me thank Mike Herz and Marc Hammond and all the wonderful FX team for the warm welcome at my first FX show and for being so kind and nice to my wife and me.
It was great to see old friends (too many to list them here) and meet new ones (like the Austrialian Ben Templesmith and the Italian Gianluca Pagliarani and his friend Giovanni). I had also the pleasure to meet two very talented artists whose work I admire: Sergio Cariello, artist of Lone Ranger and a gazillion of other books, and Ruben Procopio, former artist and sculptor at Disney and now artist of all things Pulp at Moonstone. I was surprised to find out that both had Italian grandparents, and since we had so many things in common (italian roots, pulp love, mustaches-goatee-glasses ;-)) we decided to call ourselves the three Musketeers. Needless to say, once back home, I HAD to do this (see above) :) Let's see if you can figure out who is who ;)

Zorro and the Brain in a Jar
Other highlights of the trip to Florida have been: the one day trip to Disney's Epcot (thanks to the sweet Ken and Rachel), mine and my wife very first time at Disneyworld (and I got beer too - yay ;)); the wonderful night out and dinner with the awesome Kathryn and Stuart Immonen and Ruben; the Pulp panel on SUnday morning with the brothers Sergio and Ruben (of course! ;)); the cool deck of cards featuring artwork from most of the guests of the show, just such a cool and neat idea (below is my Jack of Spades) for such a noble cause: benefit the American Cancer Society.

All in all, just some really great time :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Zorro: The Sword And The Rose

Zorro #14 Front Cover

Hi guys,

I am sorry about not having any illustrated radio show today, but I am juggling three projects under tight deadlines and the spare time is very little. Hope you all forgive me.

But I didn't want this Sunday go without a little piece of Pulp (just a 5% - I know the Superbowl has taken the remaining 95% of this SUnday ;)) so here are the original washes for my cover to Zorro #14, this month in previews for pre-orders.
And if you click on it, you will see the final color version that went to print.
Hope you guys like it :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Zorro: The Pits and the Alcalde

Zorro #9 Back Cover

Hi guys,

with issue 10 of Zorro coming out anytime now, I thought to share my back covers for issue 9 and issue 10. The back covers are some sort of "preview" of the next issue, so expect to see some tar pits and Jurassic bones in issue 10 ;) While in issue 11 Zorro will get close to the big bad guy of this second arc.
As you all know by now, I am not the interior artist on this arc (the talented Cezar Rezik is - I will be back for the third, I have been told ;)), but I was lucky enough to get my monthly fix of Zorro by drawing both front and back covers: I can't ust get enough of this guy :)

I will make sure to post the original inks of the front cover when the book hits the shelves but for now I hope you guys dig these "coming next... on Zorro!"

Cheers,
Francesco

Zorro - Chapter 8

Zorro #5

Hi guys,

Sorry for the long pause, but due to a sudden opening in my wife's schedule, we went to Italy to visit my family for a couple of weeks and just got back (still feeling the jet-leg effects).
And it seems I got back just in time for the early release of the final chapter of my arc on the origins of The Fox. As some of you will know by now, I am not drawing the next 6 issue arc (art duties will be given to Cesar Razek), but I will be providing the front covers for the whole second arc and should be back drawing the interior pages as well with the third arc. Meanwhile I will be busy, in the next few months, working on a mini for Wildstorm (details to follow).

Getting back on topic, here's some preview pages from Zorro #8 on sale today. Hope you guys have enjoyed the arc and thank you all for the always kind words and support.

Cheers,
Francesco

Zorro - Chapter 7

Zorro #5

Hi guys,

The penultimate chapter of Zorro's origins came out today: things are escalating as the two timelines are aligning toward the explosive (and I am not talking figuratively here ;)) finale in the next issue (out in October).
Till then I hope you all enjoy what Matt and I have cooked for you and this 2 pages B/W preview :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Double Pulp: Zorro & Dracula Meets the Wolfman

Zorro #6

Hello Pulp friends,

time to do that pimpin' thing again, but as you know I always try to make it worth for you all by posting behind the scenes and preview images ;)
Today there are two books which are out in the comic stores and that you should pick up. The first is the 6th chapter of Zorro: things start to get wrapped up as we head toward to end of the first origins arc (in the next 2 issues). You don't want to miss this :)

As you probably don't want to miss the clash of the Century, brought to you by truly yours and master of Horror Steve Niles. The one shot, inspired by a famous Frank Frazetta painting, tells a classic romantic gothic tale adapted for the modern audience: please let me know if you dig it :) Special thanks to Jay Fotos and Nat Jones to make this possible.
And now here's something to get you attention and push you in the store direction (wow, it rhymes! :P)

Hope you all enjoy the read!

Cheers,
Francesco

Zorro - Chapter 5

Zorro #5

Hi guys,

after the Dick Tracy's rogue gallery of the past days, please allow me to jump on a more swashbuckling fun which is dearly close to me right now: Zorro!!! :)
Issue 5 came out today so I am warmly inviting you all to go to grab a copy: issue 4 has been one of the best of the series so far (not just IMO, but also from a general feedback ;)) and I can assure things get just better issue after issue :)
And as extra, here page 6 in its original grayscale washes (plus the sepia effect for the blog ;))

Hope you all enjoy the read!

Cheers,
Francesco

Zorro #1 by Wagner & Francavilla

Ghost Town

Please allow me some pimpin' time, as Zorro is a Pulp hero, actually one of the first pulp heroes, no doubt about that :)
The first issue of the new Zorro series by Dynamite just came out this week: it's written by the Maestro Matt Wagner and illustrated by truly yours Francesco. If you have picked it up or you plan to, feel free to hit me back with comments, compliments, or insults: I take everything ;)

The above is the teaser for issue 2.

Cheers,
Francesco
