The AVENGERS, EARTH's FIRST HEROES

Hello Pulp Friends,

with the AVENGERS movie been released this week (and being one of the greatest superhero movies to date), I couldn't help sharing on Pulp Sunday my take on this beloved team of heroes: Hulk the Druid (a Celtic primeval force of nature), Captain Amerigo (from the New World), Thor himself, and an unknown mysterious clad-armored gladiator known as Iron Man . Together they are The AVENGERS, EARTH's FIRST HEROES and they fight evils and undead armies. Think of MARVEL meets LOTR. How does that sound? :)

This idea would fit perfectly in one of those WHAT IF mini at MARVEL: maybe if I put together the full pitch they might let me do it too ;)

The second piece illustrating the Avengers fighting the dead in the snow was drawn by my dear friend Steve Gordon, who penciled the piece inspired by my idea. Steve graciously allowed me to ink and color the art so to have the image you see above. 

Planning to do more art about this, like the single shot of Thor riding the horse above.

Hello Pulp Friends,

superbusy with Swamp Thing and The Black Beetle (with a Shadow and a Spider cover thrown in for good measure) this week so I hope you will forgive me if I re-air this old idea I have about a pulp story with The Batman titled "THE CRIMSON HARVEST".
I have been giving some serious thought to it lately and most likely I should start to work on some layouts - what do you guys think? :)

while I was working on the cover for Dark Shadows #11 thi past Friday, I heard the sad news about the passing of Jonathan Frid, the actor who borught to life the character of the romantic gothic vampire we all love: Barnabas Collins.

In memoriam of Jonathan, here's the latest cover for issue 10 and a collage/poster of the first 9 covers I did, all portraying his on-screen character.

So long, Jonathan, thanks for all you have done.

so excited to announce that the very first chapter of NIGHT SHIFT, The Black Beetle official debut in the comic stores all over the nation, is here: in 2 days you can grab Dark Horse Presents #11 (possibly with the Black Beetle cover) and be there for the beginning of what already appears to be a long and exciting adventure.
CANNOT WAIT for you to dig in all this pulp goodness and CAN'T wait to tell you what is brewing next for our mysterious masked hero :)

I wanted also to let you all know I have been nominated for the prestigious Eisner Award in the Best COver Artist category, thanks to the covers I have been doing for DARK SHADOWS, LONE RANGER, WARLORD OF MARS, ZORRO, BLACK PANTHER, and ARCHIE MEETS KISS.
I can't even express how excited and honored I am to be an Eisner nominee: as someone who has been working in this industry for some time now, it really means a lot.
Let's cross fingers now and hope I can bring that little trophy home :)

THE SPIDER ~ Master of Men!

Hello Pulp Friends,

Here's my cover for THE SPIDER #2* due in stores in June.
I really wanted to go all retro on this one - I hope I succeded.
I added the logo and the price tag (10 cents!) for this very post on Pulp Sunday, but they are not the final logo and price ;)
