"AFTER-LIFE WITH ARCHIE"

Hello, Pulp Friends,

I can finally let this dead cat out of the coffin! :)
This Fall I will be teaming up with talented powerhouse writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Archie Comics to bring the HORROR to Riverdale with the new book AFTER LIFE WITH ARCHIE.
Above you can see my cover for the first issue and the variant cover I did last year that inspired this all.
And on L.A. TIMES’ HERO COMPLEX you can learn a bit more about the book and on how it came to be thanks to an interview with Roberto and me.
If you love the classic EC and Creepy stile horror books, you guys are gonna love this, I promise!

Here’s the solicits for #1 and - below - my variant cover for #1.

NEW ONGOING SERIES! “Escape From Riverdale”—This is how the end of the world begins… Harvey Award-winning writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Stephen King’s Carrie, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) and Eisner-winning artist Francesco Francavilla (Batman, Black Beetle) take Archie and the gang where they’ve never been before—to the grave and back! A horrific accident sets off a series of grim events and Sabrina the Teenage Witch must try to repair the unspeakable evil her spell has unleashed. Gasp in horror as Riverdale faces an impending zombie Arch-pocalypse in this brand-new, spine-tingling ongoing series—but be warned, kiddies, this one’s not for the faint of heart! Archie the Teen-Wolf

Archie The Teen Wolf
Hello Pulp Friends,

I posted this "pseudo" ocver earlier on Comic Twart blog for this week topic: Archie Comics! When I saw some of the 50s cover, with those 50s clothes, the idea of a mix with a classic EC style horror cover would have been a fun thing to do.
I scribbled/sketched the concept quickly (see below) and finally got around yesterday about drawing most of it. Added the type and balloons this morning and ta-daa, the dish (above cover) is served! :)
Hope you guys dig it :)

A few notes:
- in the original sketch the # on the cover was 90, which is the number for FEAR in the Italian cabala (each thing has a related number which can vary from 1 to 90). I changed the # in 66 and added JUN, which is... the 6th month, so that makes, well, you know which particular number ;)
- in the original sketch I thought to add a full moon behind the title ARCHIE. I ended up iusing the moon as cap for the i in Archie: I thought it was better that way.
- finally I slightly changed the original balloons dialagoes to make it a more immediate read

Cheers,
Francesco

Pick Your Own Fear

Pick Your Own Fear
Hello Pulp friends :)

October is just behind the corner, and as you all know, I always like to celebrate the Halloween month with something special like the "Sisterhood Of The Witches" of last year and the "SchermoScuro" of 2006.
So I decided to let you guys decide what it's gonna be this year :)
Below you will find 4 options, numbered. Please let me hear from you which one you would like to see from me, and please vote in mass, let me hear from as many of you as possible: this is a case were abstinence from voting is not that cool ;)
Of course, in addition to the chosen topic, I will make room here and there for more Mad Doctors and more Witches, 'cause they are never enough, right? :)
Voting ends on October 1st.

Here are the topics:

1) HAMMER OKTOBER
A tribute to the famous British gothic movies

2) UNIVERSAL FEAR
Classic Universal Horror - there is more to say? ;)

3) A CREEPY HALLOWEEN
A short original sequential tale,
written and drawn by me, in the vein
of classic CREEPY and EC magazines

4) BLOODY PULP
(Fake) pulp covers of Fear and Terror

Have a Pulp Sunday everyone!

Cheers,
Francesco
