Orson Welles' War Of The Worlds & The Broadcast

Orson Welles' War of the Worlds
(click on the above image for a larger view)

Hello Pulp Friends,

A couple of years ago I was commissioned to do a cover for a GN, THE BROADCAST, written & drawn by the talented Eric Hobbs and Noel Tuazon. This GN is finally gonna be out in stores this August so I can reveal the cover art (below).

Since the cover was done some time ago, I thought to draw something just for this Pulp Sunday post, and the result is the above illustration (which I hope you'll dig).
Also, since it has been awhile from the last "old radio" post, here's the link to the actual Orson Welles' War of the Worlds broadcast (mp3)

What's THE BROADCAST about?
A rural Indiana town loses power halfway through Orson Welles’ WAR OF THE WORLDS broadcast having never learned the infamous radio play is a hoax. Now, fearing the worst is upon them, four diverse families band together in an effort to make it through the night. But tensions build as differences surface, and it isn’t long before everyone involved begins to realize they have as much to fear from each other as they do the “alien invasion” heading their way.
The book is 180 pages and costs only $13.99. Pre-order code is: JUN10 1062

Enjoy and have a wonderful Pulp Sunday everyone :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Green Hornet Year One #6 Cover

Hello Pulp Friends,

With the new Green Hornet movie trailer hitting the web, I thought it was appropriate to show my cover for Green Hornet Year One #6 which is solicited in Luly's Previews (in stores tomorrow).

As you know, I tried to give a movie poster feel to the whole run of covers for this arc, and since this is the conclusion of the first arc, I thought to include some credits on the cover as well, just like you would see on a movie poster :)
Hope you guys dig it :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Lone Colors!

LONE RANGER #21

~~ Click on the above and below images for BIGGER views ~~

Hello guys,

You all know by now (I think :)) about my new venture as colorist for the critically acclaimed Green Hornet Year One (written by Matt Wagner with art by Aaron Campbell), but what you probably don't know is that I was asked to also provide some colors to another Dynamite popular title (which is connected historically to Green Hornet as well ;)): The Lone Ranger!

Covers are by that super talented guy (and friend) that is John Cassaday. I only colored the two covers you see here (this was one of the many little projects I do here and there in between bigger projects) but had lot of fun collaborating with John and hope to collaborate more with him in the future.
So, here are the covers of Lone Ranger #21 and #22 (both issue currently on the shelves) with art by John Cassaday and colors by me.
Hope you guys dig it :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Al Williamson Tribute

Al Williamson Tribute
(click on the above image for a larger view)

Just right after Frazetta a few weeks back, we lost another true master of the illustrated literature.
Al Williamson, probably even more than Frazetta but as much as Alex Raymond, has been a huge inspiration fo mine, so I definitely planned to do a tribute to the man when I heard the sad news.
Along with fellow twartist, we decided to devote this week to Al Williamson, so I have been posting this on the Comic Twart yesterday and I am reposting it in here today with a detail/closeup on the "Easter Egg" I inserted in the composition.
I am planning to have a colored version of this up in here soon.
Hope you guys dig the EC sci-fi vibe of it.

So long, Al, thanks for the constant inspiration.

Cheers,
Francesco

(click on the above image for a bigger view!)

Hello Pulp friends :)

I had a great time at HeroesCon this past weekend. A big thanks to all of you who stopped by to say hi and to those who grabbed a print or two or my books and sketches.

The Lovecraftiana prints and the Winged King Skull and the Dark Queen of Heart prints I brought with me at the show went SOLD OUT! :D
For those who are interested to purchase those prints online, you can email me and I will give you the paypal info (each print is $20 plus shipping)
.

Among several things I got at the show, I received the collected tpb of Battle Hymn, a wonderful golden-age inspired book by good friends B Clay Moore and Jeremy Haun (thanks Jeremy :)). and I couldn't help to draw one of the main characters of the book, The Artificial Man, as a quick warm-up this morning.
More on the show and hopefully some more GREAT news soon ;)

Cheers,
Francesco
