The AVENGERS, EARTH's FIRST HEROES
~~ Click on the images for bigger size! ~~
Hello Pulp Friends,
with the AVENGERS movie been released this week (and being one of the greatest superhero movies to date), I couldn't help sharing on Pulp Sunday my take on this beloved team of heroes: Hulk the Druid (a Celtic primeval force of nature), Captain Amerigo (from the New World), Thor himself, and an unknown mysterious clad-armored gladiator known as Iron Man . Together they are The AVENGERS, EARTH's FIRST HEROES and they fight evils and undead armies. Think of MARVEL meets LOTR. How does that sound? :)
This idea would fit perfectly in one of those WHAT IF mini at MARVEL: maybe if I put together the full pitch they might let me do it too ;)
The second piece illustrating the Avengers fighting the dead in the snow was drawn by my dear friend Steve Gordon, who penciled the piece inspired by my idea. Steve graciously allowed me to ink and color the art so to have the image you see above.
Planning to do more art about this, like the single shot of Thor riding the horse above.
Have a great Pulp Sunday everyone.
Cheers,
Francesco

I always saw the medieval Hulk as Cú Chulainn. Less a shamanistic druid and more a raging warrior. It fits a little better with the pulp aesthetic too- Cu Chulainn is a hero, but a dark one, barely in control of himself- I recall one bit where he hulked out while having sex with a pair of ladies and smashed their skulls together, killing them.
Man, those Irish, amirite?
Holy moly.
What, haven't you read Gaiman's "1602"?
Very cool man!
Hank Pym gets no respect. He's the Rodney Dangerfield of comics (well, the OTHER kind of comics).
The character Unknown describes (Cú Chulainn) sounds exactly like SLAINE (which I am informed is properly pronounced as "SHLARN") from the UK 2000 AD comic.
shut up and take my money!!
That's great!
Would love to read that comic. Half the plot and story is kind of written by the cast in that setting.
Reminds me of some of the better Conan stories.
Hack, slash, gore ftw!
Strange how these illustrations really make me wanna see this version hit the stands. Great job guys!
Cara, Fantástico!!! Seria uma idéia para um filme que A MARVEL deveria comprar... Grande idéia, man!
